One Step at a Time

The day started the usual way: feeding the animals, getting the kids off to school. Even when I’m tired and would rather stay under the covers, everyday work like that anchors me.

Once it was just me and the animals, I got to work on sewing some cloth menstrual pads for the shop. It felt good to use my hands to create something useful and beautiful out of just some fabric and thread.

After sewing, I had a hearty breakfast and tackled some chores. I tidied one of our bathrooms, washed some laundry, did some dishes, and wiped down the kitchen counters, among other things.

Once the kitchen was clean, I felt motivated to cook. I fed the sourdough starter (which still needed to be done) and decided to make white chicken chili for dinner. Once my husband got home from work, I sent him out again for the ingredients—and while he was out, he also picked up some dirt for me. Just in time, because the seed tray I ordered arrived this afternoon.

Dinner was delicious, and I’ll even be able to freeze some as leftovers. Things are going to be hectic this summer, and I know I’ll be grateful to have a comforting meal ready to go.

Not everything gets done. Not everything needs to. But today, I made something, cared for my space, and fed the people I love. That feels like enough.

With warmth,
Amanda
